We journeyed through the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on our way home from the lake house. We had never explored that part of our home state. It took us roughly 11 hours overall - we stopped 6 times for photo ops and to play on beaches. We may have also bought a lot of fudge in Mackinac City ;)! We left the lake at 10:20am CST and headed northeast. First stop was Menominee - right at the boarder of WI and MI on Green Bay.
Emily is pictured below on a sea wall at the Menominee Marina. The little tiny sliver of land in the distance behind her is the Door County peninsula of WI.

The panoramic picture below is of Epoufette, MI. French fishermen established the unincorporated village here (pronounced "EE-poo-FETT") in 1859. Today there are a few houses down by Epoufette Bay south of U.S. 2.
Emily tried using this telescope but by the time she understood where to put her eye, the timer ran out. Oh well!
The next stop was in St. Ignace. St. Ignace is the town at the north end of the Mackinac Bridge. Here are a few shots of us. Emily took the picture that she is not in...she has skills!
This is a little blurb about the fog bells that they once used during low visibility between the Huron and Michigan Lakes.

We walked along the boardwalk and then ventured over to the old red lighthouse. It made for some cute pictures with Lake Michigan as the back drop.

He makes the funniest faces when we tell him to smile. I can't wait for his next school picture day!

Last but not least was one of our longer stops in Mackinac City. We ate "Pasties" for dinner. They are basically a meal, such as meat and potatoes, wrapped up and baked in dough. Not too bad! They were very filling. Then I snuck away to buy some of the famous fudge - DELICIOUS! After we were done indulging in the specialties of the U.P., we flew down I-75 towards home. Home sweet home. It took us about 11 hours is all. It was nice to take a trip and not feel like we were in a huge rush to get home!
